2011 Goal Review Q12011
By: Mark Jacobsen
It's the end of the 1st quarter so how am I doing on my goals?
- Run 800 miles (approx 15/week or 67/month) with a stretch goal of 1000 (approx 19/week or 84/month). I was thinking that I was way behind on this, but I just looked at my stats on Dailymile.com and I'm averaging 55 miles/mo. Had I not fallen way off in Feb (only 39), I might actually be on track.
- Run 1 marathon with a stretch goal of 2 (1 spring, 1 fall). This one is in question. I haven't signed up for anything in the Spring and I haven't been able to get in good runs on the weekend. I really just need to register for something and then I have an excuse and a reason to tell my wife I need to get out :)
- Eat only 1 helping at any meal. Not very good here. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my wife is a very good cook and also has a tendency to make a lot of her really good food. Must ... summon ... willpower.
- No liquor. This has actually been going better than expected. I've only had 1 beer since the beginning of the year, and like my quest to give up soda (which I have), the less I consume the less appealing it is.
- No "food" from a fast food restaurant (McDonalds, Wendy’s, BK, Taco Bell, etc). Great so far. Only "slip" was a visit to Arby's and that was mostly because my boss wanted to go.
- Get my weight down to 185. Weight continues to fluctuate between 190 and 195. I need to get that portion control down and the running miles up.
- Owe less than $x on the house. Going great. On track.
- Start getting up by 5am. I'm starting to re-evaluate this one a little, but with the weather hopefully starting to warm up we'll see. I can see where it would be nice to get my runs in early when it doesn't involve a treadmill or freezing my behind off.
What about you? How are your goals going?

Great idea to do a quarterly review; otherwise it's too easy to fall behind with no hope of catcing up. Sounds like you're on pretty much on track though, Mark - congrats!
